US President Donald Trump stated that he wants Israel's attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon to be conducted with greater precision and accuracy. He also expressed his hope to see an improvement in the situation in Lebanon.
In an interview with NBC News today, Trump argued that the attacks should be carried out more carefully. He also said that he does not want Lebanon to be part of a short-term agreement with Iran.
These remarks came as Israel announced an attack on a Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut. The strike on the capital's target has once again raised tensions in the region.
Last week, Israel also announced it had struck the Dahiyeh area in southern Beirut. That attack drew widespread international criticism.
Following this, Trump revealed that he spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who assured him that Israel would not attack Beirut and that Hezbollah would cease its attacks on Israel.
However, Axios reported that the phone call was tense, with Trump reportedly calling Netanyahu "crazy" during part of the conversation. The report also noted Trump's concern over rising civilian casualties and his opposition to the destruction of numerous buildings to target a Hezbollah commander.
Six days after the call, Israel reportedly launched another attack on Beirut. Iran condemned the strike as a violation of the ceasefire and warned it would not go unanswered.
