The South Windsor Police Department (SWPD) announced that two people were arrested on Sunday for attempting to shop with fake credit cards at a Costco store in Connecticut.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at the Costco on Tamarack Avenue in South Windsor. Police said that Brittany A. Howard, 35, of the Bronx, New York, and Kasheem M. Williams, 34, of Brooklyn, New York, were caught trying to pay with fake credit cards at a self-checkout register.
Store employees had previously been warned that the same suspects had attempted a similar fraud at the Enfield Costco, about 30 minutes away. Responding officers found 28 stolen financial documents in different names and goods believed to have been stolen from the other Costco in the suspects' vehicle.
After being taken into custody, it was discovered that both suspects had out-of-state arrest warrants. Williams had an extraditable warrant from Suffolk County, New York, for theft, strangulation, and assault. Howard had an extraditable warrant from Hudson County, New Jersey, for credit card theft.
Both suspects now face 28 counts of payment card theft, theft, identity theft, and conspiracy. Police said the suspects are being held on $250,000 bail and were arraigned in Manchester Superior Court on Monday morning.
