A police officer in Arlington County, Virginia, was arrested in connection with an off-duty assault.
The Arlington County Police Department said in a statement that 31-year-old Vincent Baglio was taken into custody on a malicious wounding charge.
The incident occurred at a residence on May 24, and Baglio was acquainted with the victim. Police said the suspect physically assaulted the victim during a conversation and used threatening language.
The assault was reported to police on June 30, and Baglio was arrested following an investigation by detectives.
Baglio has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative investigations.
Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn stressed that the allegations do not reflect the department's values. "These serious charges represent unacceptable conduct that is completely inconsistent with our agency's values, standards, and responsibilities," Penn said.
Penn added that both a criminal investigation and an administrative review have been launched, and officers will be held accountable based on the findings.
Baglio joined the Arlington County police force in June 2024.
