Saudi news channel Al Arabiya reported that the United States agreed to the release of $3 billion in frozen assets belonging to Iran. The decision was reached within the scope of technical talks held between the two countries in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The talks were stated to cover technical topics such as Iran's nuclear program, diplomacy, and the fate of frozen funds. It was noted that Qatar and Pakistan mediated the process, and that the contacts continued indirectly.
The Washington administration, however, rejected assessments that the funds would be released unconditionally. A US official emphasized that the process is performance-based and that no resources would be transferred without Iran fulfilling its commitments.
The issue of frozen assets stands out as one of the most contentious topics of the ceasefire and diplomacy process between the US and Iran. Whether the parties will reach a final agreement in this process, which is progressing with limited steps, remains uncertain.
