The US Department of Defense announced that it had awarded a new contract to RTX subsidiary Raytheon, which produces Tomahawk cruise missiles for the US Navy.
The agreement aims to accelerate production of Tomahawk missiles with long-range strike capabilities and increase US stocks of these weapons. The contract is expected to provide Raytheon with a more stable foundation to expand its workforce, increase production capacity and strengthen its supply chain.

US defense production to be expanded
The Pentagon awarded the contract as it works to accelerate deliveries of critical weapons and shorten procurement timelines.
Michael P. Duffey, the deputy undersecretary of defense, said RTX had responded to calls for the industry to increase munitions production. Duffey said the Tomahawk contract would improve the US Armed Forces' access to the equipment they need.
Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao described the agreement as a significant investment in the Navy's strike capabilities. Cao said the contract would accelerate deliveries of Tomahawk missiles and contribute to efforts to expand the capacity of the US munitions industry.
Cao also said the Navy was working with the defense industry to increase production capacity in order to meet the needs of ongoing operations.
