The United States is preparing to deploy the aircraft carrier USS George Washington to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is operating in the Middle East. The USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been serving in the region for more than 250 days, is planned to leave service for maintenance as part of a rotation.
The change is expected to be carried out under a previously prepared military rotation plan. The aircraft carrier rotation was planned before concerns about living conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln emerged.
Crew families concerned about living conditions
Some families of US Navy personnel voiced concerns on Saturday about the conditions faced by their relatives serving aboard the ship deployed to the Middle East. In addition to the length of the deployment, the families raised concerns about security and morale.
The USS Abraham Lincoln also took part in attacks against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. The families' statements came during the aircraft carrier's ninth month of deployment and approximately five months after reciprocal attacks between the United States and Iran began.
