US mobilizes search and rescue and humanitarian aid for Venezuela earthquakes
The US is sending search and rescue teams, medical resources, and humanitarian supplies to the region following the successive 7.5 magnitude earthquakes in Venezuela.
The US has taken action following two devastating earthquakes that struck northeastern Venezuela on Wednesday evening, killing at least 32 people and injuring more than 700.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced in a statement on X that they offered condolences to the Venezuelan people.
Rubio said, "We stand with the Venezuelan people in these difficult times."
Aid mobilization on Trump's orders
Secretary Rubio stated that the aid efforts were launched on the orders of U.S. President Donald Trump, adding:
"By order of President Donald Trump, the State Department is immediately sending search and rescue teams to Venezuela, delivering medical resources and humanitarian supplies."
Two major tremors in succession
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that two earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, 39 seconds apart. The first was recorded at magnitude 7.2, and the second at 7.5.
Venezuela's Interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced on Thursday that, according to initial assessments, 32 citizens lost their lives and more than 700 were injured as a result of the earthquakes.
