The US Senate approved a bill aimed at limiting President Donald Trump's military operations against Iran. The resolution, which had previously passed the House of Representatives, was adopted with the support of four Republican senators.
Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine), Rand Paul (Kentucky), and Bill Cassidy (Louisiana) voted alongside Democrats to secure the bill's passage in the Senate. The absence of Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who was hospitalized due to illness, and Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick, who did not participate in the vote, helped Democrats secure the necessary majority.
The resolution calls on Trump to halt American military strikes against Iran. The symbolic decision, which carries no legal binding, reflects growing concerns in the House and Senate over the administration's Iran policy.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said after the vote that the American people are "paying the price for Trump's historic mistake on Iran." Schumer criticized the policy, saying it will "go down in history books as one of the most failed foreign policy initiatives of the United States."
Meanwhile, the Pentagon has reportedly requested $80 billion from Congress to cover costs related to the Iran operation and replenish weapons stockpiles. A significant portion of the request is expected to be allocated to Iran operations.
