The US State Department announced it revoked the visas of five foreign drivers who violated traffic safety in the country. Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said these individuals endangered citizens by disregarding the law.
Crimes leading to visa revocation
- First driver: In addition to drunk driving, was arrested for disturbing public order, violently resisting arrest, and domestic violence.
- Second driver: Was arrested for aggravated drunk driving while transporting a minor, with a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit. Pigott said, "Reckless behavior that endangers a child's life on American roads is unacceptable."
- Third driver: Was arrested for drunk driving with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. Later showed up intoxicated to a court-mandated alcohol driving program.
- Fourth driver: Caused injury to another person while driving under the influence.
- Fifth driver: Was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs; their blood alcohol level was also more than three times the legal limit.
State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said, "The State Department will always put the safety of Americans first. That is why we continuously vet visa holders to ensure that foreign nationals do not pose a danger to the American people."
