The U.S. Senate confirmed President Donald Trump’s nominee for Director of National Intelligence, Jay Clayton. The vote was 51 to 47 in Clayton’s favor.
Clayton previously served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. He was appointed to the role after former Director Tulsi Gabbard resigned on May 22, citing her spouse’s health issues.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for coordinating the 18 U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and FBI. Clayton will take over from Bill Pulte, who had been serving as acting director.
