White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a press briefing that US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer will make an important statement today. The statement will address the next step following the expiration of the temporary 10 percent global tariff that President Donald Trump put into effect on February 24.
Responding to a reporter's question about whether the tariff would be extended, Leavitt said Greer would make his statement on the matter "very soon, later today." The tariff in question is being implemented under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 and can remain in effect for a maximum of 150 days.

That period expired on Thursday, July 24. Trump's imposition of this tariff came after the US Supreme Court ruled that tariffs based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) were unlawful.
