World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated American McCartney Kessler 6-1, 7-6 (11/9) in a hard-fought second-round match at the Wimbledon tennis tournament to book her place in the third round.
The Belarusian comfortably won the first set on Court 1 but faced strong resistance from Kessler in the second set. Kessler led 5-3 and had two set points on her own serve but failed to convert them. Sabalenka forced a tiebreak and won it 11-9 to seal the victory.
Draws Ostapenko
With this result, Sabalenka will face Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion, in the third round.
The four-time Grand Slam champion has never reached the final at Wimbledon. She was eliminated in the semifinals in her last three appearances at the tournament. Sabalenka has reached the quarterfinals in her last 14 Grand Slam tournaments.

Speaking after the match, Sabalenka said, 'It was a real battle, and I am very happy that I stayed in the second set and was able to get into the tiebreak. She really tested me, and I am very happy I passed that test.'
