All immigrant visa processing in Türkiye (family, employment, diversity, fiancé(e), returning resident, asylum and refugee-relative cases) is conducted at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara; the Consulate General in Istanbul does not process immigrant visas. This page explains the steps after receiving an appointment from the NVC: appointment registration, the medical examination and vaccinations with the panel physician, documents to obtain from Türkiye, the interview day and what follows.
Before the interview: checklist
- Appointment letter: The NVC notifies you of your appointment by email. The Embassy also sends a reminder email 2 weeks before the interview and may leave a message in your CEAC mailbox.
- Register at ustraveldocs.com. Everyone applying with you, including accompanying family members, must register at least 2 days before the interview.
- ustraveldocs.com/tr → "Immigrant Visa" → green "Visa Login" → "New User?" if you are a new user
- Complete your profile with your file number (Immigrant Case Number) and choose the passport delivery method: free pickup from a courier office or paid home delivery.
- Print the confirmation page and bring it to the interview. You can also register by phone: from Türkiye +90 850 390 1950, from the U.S. +1 313 572 0883.
- Complete the medical examination before the interview (below).
- Collect the documents. For electronic (PIVOT) files, also upload all documents to CEAC.
- Print the checklist. Print the Embassy's pre-interview checklist prepared for your visa category and bring it with the documents.
- Review the DS-260. Your entire employment history must be listed, not only the last 10 years; unexplained answers such as "retired" or "self-employed" may cause delays. The exact dates of your travel to the U.S. are also required. If you stayed in the U.S. for more than 6 months on a tourist visa, bring the extension document.
Panel physician: authorized examination location in Ankara
- Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ungan / Specialist Dr. Handan Ungan — physicians authorized by the Embassy to conduct immigrant visa examinations
- Address: Atatürk Bulvarı 237, Floor 4, Nos. 44 and 45, Ankara
- Phone: +90 850 532 84 72
- Fax: +90 850 532 62 27
- Email: drungan@doctorun.com
- Appointments: doctorun.com
- Hours: Monday–Friday 09:00–19:00, Saturday 09:00–13:00, closed Sunday
- Every immigrant visa applicant must undergo an examination regardless of age. Reports from other doctors are not accepted.
- Even if you live in the U.S., the immigrant visa examination cannot be performed in the U.S.; you must visit the panel physician in the country where you will be interviewed.
- Complete the examination before the interview. Results may take up to 96 hours. If the examination is not completed in time, processing will be delayed or your appointment will be rescheduled.
- You will be asked to show your passport at every stage of the examination.
What to bring to the examination
- Interview appointment letter, passport and DS-260 confirmation page
- Copies of your vaccination records, if available. Documents prepared within the last 30 days, unreliable records and health records from Iran are not accepted.
- Your medical file if you have a chronic illness, ongoing treatment, a major surgery or a history of psychiatric treatment
- The names or containers of your medications; your glasses if you wear them
- If you have a history of tuberculosis or a positive tuberculosis test, a doctor's letter showing treatment; if you previously had an abnormal chest X-ray, the films themselves
Examination, fees and vaccinations
- Examination: review of medical history and physical examination. For those 15 and older, a chest X-ray, blood test and urine test are also required.
- Standard fee: $270: includes blood, urine, chest X-ray and physical examination. An additional fee is charged if sputum, tuberculosis, drug or pregnancy testing is required. The fee is paid directly to the doctor and is nonrefundable even if the visa is not issued.
- Vaccination fee: $20–$200, depending on age and missing vaccinations.
- Vaccinations required for immigration: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, Hib, measles, meningococcal, mumps, pneumococcal, pertussis, polio, rotavirus, rubella, tetanus-diphtheria and varicella. Only the panel physician determines which are appropriate for you; a medical waiver may also be possible upon the physician's recommendation.
- Pregnant applicants: a chest X-ray is required. If you do not wish to have the X-ray, the report will be delayed until after delivery. Take your decision, supported by a written document from your own doctor, to the panel physician.
After the examination
- The doctor sends the result electronically to the Embassy or gives you a sealed envelope (fiancé(e), diversity and refugee-relative applicants receive an envelope). Do not open the envelope; bring it to the interview.
- For non-electronic files, the chest X-ray is provided on a CD. You do not need to bring the CD to the interview, but it must be with you when you first enter the U.S.
- The vaccination document completed by the doctor will be emailed to you. Make and keep several copies; many institutions in the U.S. will request it. The examination center will not issue it again later.
- Report validity: reports stating "no evidence of disease" are valid for 6 months after signing; "Class B1 (TB)" reports are valid for 3 months after the final sputum result. Your visa validity is limited by the report; if administrative processing takes longer and the report expires, the examination must be repeated.

Changing an appointment, emergency appointments and transferring a case
- Rescheduling or cancellation: use "Reschedule Appointment" or "Cancel Appointment" in the ustraveldocs.com dashboard. You must first have registered the initial appointment provided by the NVC; only later dates can be selected.
- If you missed the interview: wait 24 hours, then sign in and select "Missed My Appointment".
- Emergency appointment: select "Emergency Request" in the dashboard. Explain your medical or humanitarian situation with supporting documents; a response generally arrives within 5 business days.
- Transfer to another country: after the NVC has assigned an appointment, request this only through the NVC's Public Inquiry Form; do not write to the Embassy.
- Diversity (DV) visas cannot be issued after September 30 of the program year.
After the interview
- Approval: the visa is printed in your passport. Check the spelling of your name and your date of birth immediately; notify the Embassy immediately if there is an error.
- Visa package: do not open the sealed envelope given to you. Do not put it in your luggage; carry it with you. If your passport contains the note "IV Docs in CCD," the package was sent electronically to CBP; you do not need to carry an envelope.
- Validity: the visa is generally valid for 6 months; it is shorter if the medical report expires earlier. The principal applicant enters the U.S. before or together with the family members.
- USCIS immigrant fee: $235: pay it online before traveling to the U.S.; the card will not be produced if it is unpaid. A relative may also make the payment using the A-Number and DOS Case ID. K visa holders, returning residents (SB-1), children arriving through adoption programs and Iraqi/Afghan special immigrants are exempt.
- 221(g) refusal (missing documents): you will receive a refusal letter showing the missing items. Send the missing documents by courier together with the passport all at once (also upload them to CEAC for electronic files). If you do not send them within 1 year of the refusal date, the case will be closed.
- Administrative processing: most cases finish within 6 months. Except in emergencies, do not inquire about the status until at least 6 months after the interview. If you receive a QR-coded refusal page, you will be asked to complete Form DS-5535.
- Track the status on the CEAC status check page by selecting "Immigrant" and entering your case number.
- Do not sell your home or car, leave your job or purchase nonrefundable tickets before the visa is issued.
- If you could not use the visa: if the petition has not been revoked, submit the DS-260 again and apply in person at the Embassy with your passport, 2 new photographs, a new medical report and the unused package; the application fee must be paid again.
