U.S. President Donald Trump, who said participating countries were ready to make significant contributions to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and rebuild the region, also spoke about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Tuesday’s summit in New York.
Trump described Erdoğan as a “tough and wonderful man” and said, “Don’t mess with him.”
At the summit, attended by Erdoğan as well as the leaders of Egypt, Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Lebanon and Iraq, Trump recalled the talks held with regional countries on the sidelines of last year’s United Nations General Assembly meetings.
Trump said those talks had addressed steps that could be taken to end the war in Gaza and that efforts were being made to resolve the crisis in the region. Turning to Erdoğan during his remarks, Trump said his “friend” from Türkiye was also attending the meeting.
Trump also noted that the leaders attending the summit were making major efforts to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and that the countries were ready to make significant contributions to rebuilding Gaza.
