Turkish missions and areas of responsibility in the US

IN SHORT

A consular section of an embassy and six consulates general serve Turkish citizens in the US.
As a rule, the mission to which you should apply is determined according to the state where you reside.
For emergencies outside working hours, call the duty telephone of the mission responsible for you.
You can use the 24/7 call center for questions about consular procedures.

There are seven missions providing consular services to Turkish citizens in the US: the Consular Section of the Embassy in Washington and the consulates general in New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Boston, and Miami. Each mission is responsible for specific states, and as a rule you carry out your procedures at the mission responsible for the state where you live. On this page, you will find each mission's area of responsibility, address, telephone number, duty (emergency) line, email address, and working hours; honorary consulates, mobile consular services, and the 24/7 call center.

Which mission is responsible for you? (areas of responsibility)

    • For birth registration in New York, the child must have been born in a state within New York's area of responsibility.
    • Each consulate general authenticates signatures and seals on documents issued by US authorities only for documents from states within its own area.
    • Applications for death registration and a certificate for transporting remains may be made to all missions in the US (see 11.8 Transporting remains and death procedures).
    • Renewal of a Turkish driver's license is carried out at the mission where your address declaration is registered.

Honorary consulates

  • The "Affiliated Missions" list on the website of the Embassy in Washington includes the following honorary consulates general: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chapel Hill, Detroit, Flowood, Kansas, Sacramento, and Seattle.
  • The Embassy's introduction page and the Consulate General in Chicago mention only Detroit as an honorary consulate general in the US. The lists on the official pages do not match.
  • The addresses and telephone numbers of honorary consulates are not published on the mission websites.
  • In the konsolosluk.gov.tr appointment system, only seven missions can be selected for the US: the Embassy in Washington and the six consulates general. Passport, identity card, civil registry, notary, and military-service applications are made at these missions.

Call before going to an honorary consulate: If you are considering going to an honorary consulate for a procedure, first call the consulate general responsible for you and ask whether the procedure can be carried out there.

Mobile consular service

  • Consulates general organize mobile consular services lasting several days in cities far from them. Examples announced in 2025–2026:
    • Consulate General in Boston: West Springfield, Massachusetts, October 9, 2026
    • Consulate General in Los Angeles: San Francisco, February 6–8, 2026; Arizona, February 21–23, 2025; Seattle, Washington state (announcement dated April 2025)
    • Consulate General in Miami: Atlanta (announcement dated October 2025)
  • Appointments for mobile services are generally given following a preliminary application by email:
    • The Boston and Los Angeles announcements requested that the applicant's first and last name, Turkish ID number, date of birth, and requested procedure be sent by email.
    • Los Angeles required a copy of each applicant's identity card or passport to be attached to the email.
    • A separate appointment is required for each person, including family members.
    • The procedures requested in Boston's email example include "address declaration, new passport, notary procedures." Los Angeles states that only procedures requiring in-person applications are accepted during mobile services.
  • New announcements are published on the missions' "Announcements" pages.

Common mistakes

  • Living in Washington state (Seattle) and making an appointment at the Embassy in Washington, DC. Washington state is under Los Angeles.
  • Failing to submit an address declaration to the new mission after moving. Driver's license renewal and voter registration depend on the address declaration.
  • Calling the duty (emergency) telephone for an appointment or fee-related question.
  • Going directly to an honorary consulate for passport or identity card procedures.
  • Sending the preliminary application email requested in a mobile consular announcement after the deadline.
  • Waiting for a consular appointment for attaché and consultancy matters (student deferment, pensions).

Frequently asked questions
