A deadly stabbing attack in the heart of New York City has left a Bank of America executive dead and another man injured, after authorities say a woman armed with two large kitchen knives randomly attacked pedestrians in Times Square.
The victim who died was identified as 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, who worked at Bank of America as a Vice President of Business Selection and Conflicts. Bank of America confirmed her death and described Piacenti as a valued member of its team.
Two victims attacked within seconds
The violence unfolded at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31, in one of Manhattan’s busiest areas.
According to authorities, 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, carrying two large kitchen knives, first stabbed a 68-year-old man in the abdomen after he emerged from the subway and was waiting to cross the street.
Approximately 20 seconds later, Cisneros allegedly attacked Piacenti, also stabbing her in the abdomen.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital. Piacenti later died from her injuries, while the 68-year-old man was reported to be in stable condition.

NYPD officers confronted the suspect
Police confronted Cisneros near an NYPD facility in Times Square following the attacks.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said officers repeatedly ordered Cisneros to drop the knives for approximately four minutes. Police also attempted to use Tasers to subdue her, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
Authorities said Cisneros continued advancing toward officers while holding both knives. Two NYPD officers then opened fire, striking her.
She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police believe the attack was random
Investigators have found no known connection between the suspect and the victims, and authorities currently believe the attacks were random and unprovoked.
Officials have also said there is currently no evidence suggesting that the incident was connected to terrorism.
Police said Cisneros had no prior arrest history with the NYPD, although authorities were aware of a previous mental-health-related history involving her. Investigators are continuing to examine what may have led to the deadly attack.

Piacenti had recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary
Additional details about Piacenti’s life have added to the tragedy surrounding the case.
According to the New York Post, citing her social media activity, Piacenti had celebrated her second wedding anniversary on August 10, just weeks before she was killed.
She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016 and later earned her law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 2021 before building a career in the financial sector and joining Bank of America.
Deadly violence in the heart of Times Square
The attack has drawn significant attention because it occurred in broad daylight in Times Square, one of the most heavily visited and closely policed areas of New York City.
The NYPD investigation remains ongoing as detectives review surveillance footage, evidence from the scene and the suspect’s movements leading up to the attack in an effort to determine what prompted the violence.
