The alarm over the Ankara NATO Leaders Summit continues in the Western press. The summit, hosted by Turkey, is receiving extensive coverage in US and European media. Most recently, the US-based Bloomberg agency covered the summit.
The report, which said 'President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will show why Europe needs Turkey,' stated that 'ahead of the NATO Summit in Ankara, Turkey has become the alliance's vital hub with its $10 billion domestic defense industry.' Bloomberg's analysis emphasized that the S-400 and F-35 crises could be overcome and that Turkey sees itself as the leader of the European security architecture in the post-US era.
THE MOST CRITICAL SUMMIT
The Ankara Summit will see the historic decisions taken at last year's NATO summit in The Hague implemented for the first time. It will mark one of the most significant turning points since the Cold War, initiating the 'NATO 3.0' process—a comprehensive transformation of the alliance covering defense spending, force structure, defense industry, and transatlantic burden-sharing.
A BUSY AGENDA
The leaders' agenda includes many critical topics that will shape the alliance's future, from implementing the decisions taken at last year's Hague Summit and increasing defense spending to enforcing the NATO Force Model, strengthening the defense industry's production capacity, assuming new responsibilities for Europe, and continuing support for Ukraine.
ARRIVING WITH A 1,000-PERSON DELEGATION
U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to arrive in Ankara on the afternoon of July 7 as part of the NATO Leaders Summit. During the official visit, Trump will be welcomed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with an official ceremony at the Presidential Complex. The welcoming ceremony will also feature soldiers in special uniforms representing the 16 great Turkish states.
As part of the program, Erdoğan and Trump are scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting followed by inter-delegation talks. After the meetings, Trump is expected to rest and then attend the official dinner in honor of NATO leaders at the Presidential Complex.
While the U.S. President is expected to arrive in Ankara with a delegation of over 1,000 people, the visit is considered important not only for the NATO Summit but also for Turkey-US relations.
