U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Republican Party will hold its first "Midterm Convention" this fall in Texas. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the event will take place on September 9-10 in Dallas.
Trump said, "It will be in Dallas, Texas, one of my favorite places in the world. It has never been done before, and it will be a truly historic event."
'Great American Comeback' Theme
The president said the convention aims to celebrate the "Great American Comeback" and highlight the ongoing successes of his administration's "America First" agenda. In his post, he cited a series of policy victories, including the elimination of taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security, strengthening border security, and creating safer communities.
He also pointed to American energy dominance with falling oil prices, progress in denuclearizing Iran, and lowering the cost of living for citizens. Trump said, "We are delivering on promises that politicians have talked about for decades but never accomplished."
A Unique Rally
Trump said the convention in September will be "a rally like no other" and will include "great entertainment." The event will honor the country's first responders, innovators, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and job creators.
Preparing for the Midterms
National political conventions are normally held in presidential election years. However, as Republicans try to maintain their narrow majority in the Senate and their slim advantage in the House of Representatives in this year's elections, Trump announced a convention ahead of the midterms to showcase the "great work" they have done since the GOP retook the White House last September. In January, the Republican National Committee approved a rule change granting Chairman Joe Gruters the authority to convene a midterm-year convention.
Gruters: The President Is Our Secret Weapon
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Gruters said the convention will be a "Trump-a-palooza" and will highlight all the incredible things the president has done. He previously said, "I think the President of the United States is our secret weapon."
Strong Reaction from Democrats
Kendall Witmer, Rapid Response Director for the Democratic National Committee, told Fox News Digital, "The American people can't pay their bills or afford gas because of Donald Trump. The Republicans' response is to hold a multi-million-dollar televised celebration for Trump. This will only remind Americans of Trump's broken promises and tie the already struggling Republican candidates to the most unpopular president in history."
Witmer emphasized that Democrats are already on the ground in districts, explaining to American voters their plans to lower costs and make healthcare affordable. The Democratic National Committee, which significantly lags behind the Republican National Committee in fundraising, considered holding a midterm convention last year but abandoned the costly event.
Poll Numbers
Amid these developments, Trump's approval ratings remain low. Many Americans give the president low marks on the economy and cost of living.
