A secret report attributed to the CIA warns that Israel faces the risk of “civil war or political collapse,” according to Israeli media. The Maariv newspaper reported that the wars of recent years have deepened social crises inside the country. The report’s contents could not be independently verified.
Waning U.S. support
According to the reported findings, Israel has become increasingly isolated abroad, and declining support in the United States, together with the country’s slide toward the status of a “semi-pariah state,” could heighten the risk of disintegration.
The report also points to a separate political crisis surrounding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has led the most right-wing government in Israel’s history since December 2022, faces corruption charges at home and has been sought by the International Criminal Court since 2024 over alleged war crimes in Gaza.

Divisions ahead of the Oct. 27 vote
The report says years of war in Gaza, in Lebanon and with Iran have deepened political, economic and social rifts. It lists economic strain, rising military spending, severe psychological trauma among some soldiers returning from the fighting, and the dispute over exempting ultra-Orthodox Haredi men from compulsory military service as drivers of tension. Settler violence in the occupied West Bank is also cited as aggravating Israel’s internal problems.
The report comes as Israel prepares for a general election on Oct. 27, with polls showing the opposition bloc ahead but short of a governing majority.
