MSC Cruises canceled the voyage of its MSC Poesia cruise ship after it was detained by the U.S. Coast Guard at the Port of Miami, the cruise line confirmed to CBS News on Tuesday. A source told CBS News that more than 2,000 people were on board.
The Coast Guard "identified deficiencies with systems on board the vessel that we are addressing with MSC," said Capt. Frank Florio, commander of the Miami sector. The ship will remain detained until the deficiencies are corrected and it is cleared for departure. The Coast Guard's Miami sector detained the ship for inspection on Sunday.

MSC Cruises said the cancellation was caused by a "regulatory matter" that arose before departure and could not be resolved in time. "We recognize how disappointing and frustrating this news is for our guests, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption to their holiday," the company said, adding that guests will receive a full refund and help getting home.
The MSC Poesia can carry more than 3,200 passengers and over 1,000 crew members, according to the company.
