The minority stake in Liverpool has been transferred to an investment group that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and his wife, Elaine Saverin.
Fenway Sports Group announced that it had reached a definitive agreement for the sale with 1892 Holdings, a company run by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia. Under the agreement, the investors will work with Fenway Sports Group and Liverpool’s management to explore opportunities that support the club’s sporting and commercial ambitions.
Fenway Sports Group will retain control
The new partnership will not change Liverpool’s management structure. Fenway Sports Group plans to retain its majority stake and continue overseeing the club’s operations.
Fenway Sports Group Chairman Mike Gordon said Amit Bhatia and the consortium shared a long-term approach and common vision for making Liverpool special. Gordon added that they looked forward to working with the investment group.

Bezos’s first direct investment in sports ownership
For Bezos, whose fortune is said to exceed $280 billion, the agreement marks his first direct entry into sports club ownership. Bezos had previously shown interest in different clubs and sports investments but had not completed an ownership deal in the sector.
Liverpool’s achievements under Fenway
Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool in 2010 for approximately €350 million. The club’s commercial and financial value increased significantly as it returned to the competition for domestic and continental titles in the following years.
Under Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League in 2019. The English club won the English Premier League in the 2019–2020 and 2024–2025 seasons, as well as adding numerous domestic and continental trophies to its collection.
The stake sale took place as Liverpool prepared for the new Premier League season. The club finished the previous season in fifth place and entered a new phase in both its sporting operations and investment activities.
