At least 81 fixed- or rotary-wing aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles were lost or damaged in U.S. operations against Iran. A Congressional Research Service report found that these losses had occurred since the attacks began on February 28.
The study, updated in October, said the aircraft had a combined value of $3.3 billion. The report also noted that the total could rise as new information is added.
MQ-9 Reaper losses stand out
The highest number of losses involved MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles used in attacks against Iran. According to the report, at least 45 of these aircraft were lost.

The loss list in the report also includes 12 F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft. Three of these aircraft were destroyed by friendly fire over Kuwaiti airspace in March, the report said.
Losses among other aircraft
- One F-35A Lightning II
- Two A-10 Thunderbolt IIs
- Seven KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft
- One E-3 Sentry airborne early warning and control aircraft

The study's data are based on operational incidents compiled from Pentagon records, statements by U.S. Central Command, military inspector general findings and press reports.
The Congressional Research Service warned that the lost or damaged aircraft could place potential pressure on the U.S. defense industry. The report also raised concerns about whether the Pentagon could replace these aircraft quickly.
