The Cuban government strongly condemned the US administration's decision to add companies linked to the GAESA holding, which plays a key role in the Cuban economy and is under the control of the armed forces, to its sanctions list.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, in a statement on the social media platform X, called Washington's new restrictive measures a 'crime' and harshly criticized US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Rodriguez said, 'The US government, led by a dishonest and lying Secretary of State, continues to increase the economic blockade after seeing that the Cuban economy is more resilient, capable, and effective than expected despite the violent aggression and collective punishment against the people and their living conditions.'
The Cuban Foreign Minister stated in his remarks, 'What this person, who leads the world's largest power, has initiated is a crime.'
New US sanctions
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously announced on platform X that new sanctions were imposed on companies linked to the GAESA holding, which dominates the Cuban economy and is under military control.
Rubio claimed that this structure 'steals' the resources of the Cuban people for its own interests. The US Secretary of State said, 'Today I have sanctioned the GAESA network and entities that exploit Cuba's mining and metallurgical resources for illicit gain.'
He also emphasized that the US will not allow these companies to continue what Washington sees as anti-American propaganda activities.
