Pop icon Madonna has announced that her long-planned biopic project has been shelved. The artist cited a budget dispute with Universal Studios as the reason for the project's cancellation.
In a statement, Madonna said, "We had a disagreement with Universal Studios over the budget because I have lived an extraordinary life. I have lived a very big life, so I needed a big budget. They just could not understand that."
The singer said she fought with producers for days and was repeatedly told that "this film cannot be made."
The first version of the project was launched under the title "Little Sparrow" and involved Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody. However, disagreements over the budget prevented the film from being realized.
