The Los Angeles medical examiner's office announced that 81-year-old actor James Handy died from a stab wound to the chest and neck compression. The incident, in which Handy was killed on June 3, is being investigated as a homicide.
Police responded to a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. on the day of Handy’s death. The caller reportedly said, "I am the son of sin. I just killed the man of sin."
Authorities stated that the stabbing appears to be an isolated incident and does not pose an additional public safety threat. Handy was found unconscious in the front yard of a home in Tarzana.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office has charged Michael Gledhill, the 44-year-old son of Handy’s girlfriend Wendy Gledhill, with murder. The prosecution also announced a special allegation that a deadly weapon was used in the crime.
Michael Gledhill reportedly lived in the same house as his mother, Wendy Gledhill. In a phone interview, Wendy expressed deep shock and said she loved James Handy, emphasizing that such a tragedy should never have happened.
Handy had a long career in Hollywood. The actor appeared in films such as Top Gun: Maverick, Arachnophobia, Jumanji, and Logan, and also had roles in TV series including NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI: New York, NYPD Blue, and Law & Order.
