European Union member states have agreed on the terms for releasing €6.6 billion from the European Peace Facility for use in Ukraine.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the decision was positive for Ukraine and negative for Russia.
How the fund will be distributed
A €900 million portion of the fund will be allocated to supporting the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine. Another €1 billion will be used for the joint procurement of new military equipment.
The remaining €4.7 billion will be reimbursed to EU member states. Kallas said some countries had announced that they would transfer their allocated share to Ukraine.
Kallas describes Moscow's hybrid attacks
Kallas said Moscow was seeking to persuade Europe to reduce its support for Ukraine through hybrid attacks. She said Europe was responding to this pressure by increasing, rather than reducing, its support.
The European Peace Facility, financed by the EU, is used as a mechanism to support the provision of military assistance to partner countries. The facility had previously been used to provide military equipment and supplies to Ukraine and to finance the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine.
