More than 30 people were detained in a US-backed operation in Ecuador. The detainees were allegedly associated with a drug trafficking network allegedly directly connected to Mexico’s Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
Ecuadorian Interior Minister John Reimberg said more than 320 personnel from Ecuador’s National Police took part in the operation. Fifty representatives from US Southern Command also participated, while teams from the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) took part as well.
US Southern Command said the operation targeted illegal networks that pose a terrorist threat and cause harm in the region. The command said the joint fight against the cartels would continue.
