Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated that the full implementation of the plan to disarm Hamas in Gaza would constitute a constructive step towards achieving lasting peace in the region.
In a statement on the social media platform X, Kallas welcomed the agreement brokered by the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey.
Pointing out that a series of conditions must be met for the plan to be implemented, the EU official said, "The full implementation of the Hamas disarmament plan will be a constructive step on the path to peace."
Stressing that success depends on the full commitment of all parties, Kallas said, "Verifying Hamas' compliance with the terms of the agreement will pose a serious challenge. Ultimately, Israel will also need to withdraw its troops from Gaza."
Kallas noted that the European Union is ready to support the next steps, adding that the EU's missions on the ground play an important role in supporting efforts to build a Palestinian state.
