The documentary podcast series Finding Fire Island, nominated for GLAAD Awards, will return with its second season on June 11. The new episodes will focus on the Pines area of Fire Island, known for its parties and exclusive atmosphere.
The production team says the season will not only explore the music and the surrounding legend but also take a close look at the community that "keeps the fantasy alive."
Notable Figures in the New Season
The series creator Jess Rothschild has brought together names such as John Waters, Billy Porter, Julio Torres, Lina Bradford, Jerry Mitchell, Cody Rigsby, Jay Jurden, Susan Morabito, and Robbie Leslie to describe the new season. Rothschild explained that with their contributions, the episodes will tell stories spanning different eras of Fire Island.
The first season featured figures like Margaret Cho, Joel Kim Booster, and Matt Rogers. The second season is expected to broaden the narrative focus, offering more details about both the past and present.
Archival Footage and Community Memory
The series was co-produced with the Pines Historical Society, and the new season will include rare archival footage. This material aims to make Fire Island’s cultural memory more visible.
Rothschild said Fire Island played a decisive role in shaping their gay identity while growing up in New York. Over the years, their interest in the island’s history and culture grew, leading them to collect stories from many figures past and present.
Rothschild expressed that the new season opens a space for untold stories. The first two episodes will be released on June 11, with new episodes following weekly.
The production will be distributed through the Broadway Podcast Network and will be accessible on SiriusXM, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music platforms.
