Approximately 3.9 tonnes of cocaine were seized from a container from Ghana that arrived at Dunkirk Port in northern France on September 14. The drugs were hidden among plastic waste inside the container.
The French Public Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime announced that part of the cocaine was intended for shipment to Antwerp, Belgium.
French police had been investigating the criminal network
Before the operation, French judicial police had been working to identify the criminal network alleged to be behind the shipment. The operation that followed uncovered approximately 3.9 tonnes of cocaine.
Three people detained in Ghana
The Ghana Narcotics Control Commission announced that three suspects were detained after the shipment was uncovered.
Ghanaian authorities accuse the suspects of helping Jos Leijdekkers, who is wanted in the Netherlands and is known by the nickname “Bolle Jos,” with his activities in Ghana.
