The U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve a resolution limiting the Trump administration's authority for military intervention against Iran.
The measure, introduced by Democrats, passed the House with 214 votes in favor and 208 against. Four Republican members broke party ranks to vote with Democrats: Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett, and Warren Davidson.
The resolution is a concurrent resolution, meaning it has no legal force and is not sent to the president for signature. Therefore, even if approved by the Senate, it cannot compel the U.S. government to halt military activities in Iran. However, the House's move is seen as a significant political message and rebuke of the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate is also expected to vote today on a similar effort to limit the president's war powers concerning Iran.
