The Japanese side highlighted a result that would contribute to resolving the de facto blockade in the strait and the regional crisis.
Close communication between Tokyo and Muscat
During the meeting, the two ministers agreed to maintain close communication between Tokyo and Muscat for stability in the Middle East, including ensuring free and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. It was also stated in the meeting that Japan is ready to contribute to the reconstruction of the region.
Framework of the Iran-US agreement
Iran and the US had announced on June 14 that they had reached a 14-point agreement, within the framework of a negotiation process mediated by Pakistan, to halt hostilities and resolve issues through talks. The agreement was reported to include items such as opening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the naval blockade.
The parties are expected to return to the table for a final agreement after the signing of the memorandum of understanding on June 19 in Switzerland, with the participation of the heads of the two countries' negotiation teams. It was reported that this process will also cover issues such as Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.
According to the framework called the Islamabad Accord, after the final signing, the parties will move to a new round of negotiations for a comprehensive agreement. It was stated that the agreement includes items such as ending the war, including in Lebanon, and ensuring safe passage in Hormuz.
