Jimmy Kimmel harshly criticized the possibility that Elon Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire on his show. Kimmel described Musk as an "extremely wealthy eccentric" and expressed discomfort with so much wealth being concentrated in one person.
Kimmel explained that SpaceX is expected to make the largest IPO in history tomorrow, meaning the company will start trading on the stock market. According to him, this step is said to make Musk the first trillionaire in history.
The host argued that Musk is not only the richest person in the world but also one of the strangest figures. Kimmel said Musk has the means to "blow things up monthly" and suggested he has the power to transfer other people’s money into his own accounts.
Kimmel also mentioned that because SpaceX shares will trade at very high valuations, some retirement accounts might automatically invest in these shares. He said this could be risky, especially since the company is not profitable and lost $5 billion last year.
The host also conveyed that Musk has told people they don’t need to save for retirement because the robots he sells will provide everything they need. Kimmel argued that while this development could make Musk a trillionaire, many people might be condemned to ordinary jobs.
At the end of the show, Kimmel noted that even imagining a trillion dollars is difficult. He humorously concluded by saying they know Musk has many children, but imagining his private life is even harder.
