U.S. President Joe Biden will release his memoir 'Promise Me, America' (Söz Ver Bana, Amerika), recounting his time in office, on November 17. Announced by Little, Brown and Company, the book will hit shelves right after the November midterm elections.
According to the Associated Press, Biden provided details about the book's content in a video statement. The president said, 'Promise Me, America is a book about the challenges our country has faced. It's about the decisions I made and why I made them. It tells why I decided to run for a second term and why I ultimately decided to step aside.' The book will cover many topics, from the state of the economy to his decision not to run for a second term.

Timing Right After the Midterm Elections
The book's publication date falls just two weeks after the midterm elections, where Democrats aim to regain control of Congress. It is noted that this timing could thrust Biden back into the spotlight, causing concern within the party.
There is no consensus within the Democratic Party on Biden's political legacy. Many party members believe his decision to run for reelection paved the way for Donald Trump's return to the White House. While party leadership aims to keep the campaign focused on Trump and his policies, it is assessed that the promotional activities around the book could disrupt this strategy.
Health and His Term in Office
Biden, who will turn 84 three days after the book's publication, is the oldest president in U.S. history. His health was a subject of debate throughout much of his term. He and his White House team faced sharp criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for allegedly concealing the true state of his health.
Biden withdrew from the race after his June 2024 debate with Trump, where his performance was heavily criticized. First Lady Jill Biden wrote in her book 'View from the East Wing,' published in June, that during that debate her husband appeared so weak and disoriented that she feared he was having a stroke. Biden announced in 2025 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Book Tour and Publication Details
A spokesperson for Little, Brown said Biden plans a promotional tour and a series of interviews for the book. While the publisher did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, such contracts for presidents are typically in the seven-figure range.
In his video message, Biden also addressed questions about his health: 'I'm spending a lot of time with my family. I'm undergoing cancer treatment and everything is going very well. I want to thank everyone who supports me, prays for me, and wishes me well. This means a lot to me and Jill.'
The book's title references Biden's 2017 memoir 'Promise Me, Dad' (Söz Ver Bana, Baba), which he dedicated to the death of his son Beau Biden. 'Promise Me, America' will be published at a time when political books are struggling to make bestseller lists.
