The UK is taking a new step to regulate the time young people spend on digital platforms. The government announced it plans to impose nighttime restrictions on social media use for 16-17 year-olds.
Under the proposed regulation, users in this age group will be restricted from using social media platforms between midnight and 6 a.m. However, the government stated that this restriction will not be mandatory, and young people will be able to remove the limit through their account settings.
The UK government also announced that features designed to keep users on platforms longer, such as 'infinite scrolling' and 'autoplay,' will be reduced. The new rules are expected to come into force next spring.
