Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and tell him that he should not interfere in Brazil’s presidential elections.
Lula da Silva shared the message he wants to convey to Trump at an event attended by hundreds of supporters as part of his election campaign. Saying he would board a plane at 10 a.m. Sunday to attend the United Nations General Assembly, Lula da Silva said he would meet with Trump.
Lula sends sovereignty message
Lula da Silva said Brazil would not accept becoming another country’s “colony,” adding that his country wanted to protect its sovereignty and be governed by its people.
Lula da Silva also criticized Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro and his rival in the election. Saying that Flávio Bolsonaro advocates good relations with Washington, Lula da Silva said politicians who display Brazil’s national flag during the day and kneel before the U.S. flag at night would not be accepted in Brazil.
First round of elections set for October 4
