U.S. President Trump’s map post drew sharp criticism from Icelandic officials. Icelandic Prime Minister Frostadottir described the post, which depicted Iceland as U.S. territory, as “ridiculous.”
At a joint press conference, Frostadottir pointed out that the map also showed Canada, Mexico, Greenland and surrounding regions as U.S. territory. She said this implication was an outright insult to Icelanders, Canadians and Greenlanders.

Frostadottir said there was nothing funny or normal about mocking the sovereignty of states, adding that the issue should be addressed clearly.
Icelandic Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir also described Trump’s post as inappropriate. Gunnarsdottir stressed that Iceland is a sovereign and independent state.
In Trump’s map, Iceland was shown in the colors of the U.S. flag.
