Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said calls for an early general election would be considered, stating that the government had sufficient authority to continue its mandate to govern the country.
Ibrahim said the administration was working to stimulate the economy, improve public welfare and prevent corruption and the abuse of power.
Ibrahim defends the government's stability
Ibrahim said the federal government was stable and had a mandate from the public to continue governing the country effectively. He noted that the fight against corruption was not aimed at protecting the interests of any particular ethnic group or community.
The prime minister said the policy covered Malay, Chinese and Indian citizens, as well as everyone living in Sabah and Sarawak.
Barisan Nasional may support an early election
Barisan Nasional Coalition Secretary-General Zambry Abdul Kadir said the coalition remained committed to the unity government and its pledge to preserve the country's political stability.
Zambry said the United Malays National Organisation and Barisan Nasional could support holding an early election. He added that this did not mean the coalition was confident it could form the next government.
The current 15th Parliament is expected to complete its term on December 18, 2027.
