New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani responded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who targeted him in his speech at the UN General Assembly last month. “It’s not about me and him,” Mamdani said on comedian Theo Von’s podcast. “It’s about the fact that he’s the architect of a genocide.”
Mamdani said Netanyahu was trying to distract attention from the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza by naming as many people as possible and turning the issue into a back-and-forth. He also reiterated that, if it were up to him, the United States would join the International Criminal Court and honor every warrant it has issued, including the one for Netanyahu.

The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Netanyahu accused Mamdani of antisemitism in his UN speech, while Mamdani has repeatedly called him “the architect of a horrific genocide.” Mamdani has previously acknowledged that New York City lacks independent authority to enforce ICC warrants.
