The white No. 23 jersey Michael Jordan wore during the Chicago Bulls' final championship season in 1998 set a record for Jordan sports memorabilia with a sale price of $12.26 million.
The jersey, put up for sale by Ryan Gough, was sold through Joopiter, the digital auction platform founded by musician Pharrell Williams. Its presale estimate was between $10 million and $15 million.
The game in which the jersey was worn
Jordan wore the jersey during Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. The game, played at Chicago's United Center on June 7, 1998, began with the series tied 1-1.
The Chicago Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz 96-54, with Jordan recording 24 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. The Jazz's 54 points remained the lowest total scored by a team in NBA Finals history.

The result put the Bulls ahead in the series. Chicago won the Finals 4-2 to claim its sixth championship in eight seasons. Jordan was also named NBA Finals Most Valuable Player for the sixth time that season.
The 1998 season later became part of the period known as "The Last Dance."
New record for Jordan memorabilia
Joopiter described the jersey as one of the pieces worn in the most important games in sports history. The platform said the item represented the end of an era that turned basketball into a global cultural phenomenon.

Joopiter said only four jerseys worn in games won by the Bulls during the 1998 Finals are known to exist. The jersey worn in Game 3 became the only known white game-winning jersey from the series to reach the public.
The $12.26 million sale surpassed the previous record for Jordan memorabilia, set at a Sotheby's auction in 2022. The red jersey Jordan wore in Game 1 of the 1998 Finals sold for $10.091 million that year.
Another sale at Joopiter
The platform also sold a 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello customized for Jordan for $2.7 million. The car, which had reportedly not been seen by the public for 24 years, featured specially designed seat rails to accommodate Jordan's 1.98-meter height.
The new sale set the highest price for Jordan sports memorabilia but did not surpass the record for game-worn sports items overall. That record was set in 2024, when a jersey worn by baseball player Babe Ruth in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series sold for $24.12 million.
