Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella attributed the strong position of US artificial intelligence models against their Chinese competitors to advantages in trust and efficiency. Speaking to CNN, Nadella emphasized that most Chinese models run on servers and data centers in the US.
Nadella said that because these models are open source, US companies can examine their working mechanisms, impose necessary restrictions, and retrain the models. "It’s all about trust in American technologies and the philosophy of an integrated ecosystem in which these technologies operate," he said.

Philosophical differences
Nadella pointed out a fundamental philosophical difference between Chinese and US AI models. He implied that Chinese firms develop models that can be offered to any company at low cost, while US models rely on an integrated ecosystem that can generate profit and enable the utilization of technology.
The American approach focuses on providing easy access to models for customers and on the trust built over years of using US technologies. According to Nadella, as long as this system stands, US technologies will retain their competitive edge.
AI bubble warning
Asked about concerns over an AI bubble, Nadella replied that investments need to have a direct positive impact on business processes and productivity. He said that this positive effect would boost US gross domestic product and keep companies away from a bubble burst.
However, he warned that if companies cannot link the power of AI models directly to productivity gains and national income, this could lead to a general economic crisis and cause the AI bubble to burst. Nadella did not completely dismiss the existence of a bubble, stressing that broad economic growth is essential for companies to avoid that scenario.
Nadella’s comments coincided with a letter in which major US technology companies led by Nvidia urged the administration of President Donald Trump not to impose restrictions on open-source models and to encourage their use.
