NBA has started to examine the interaction between Jalen Brunson and a fan in the stands during the first game of the 2026 Finals. It was reported that the incident escalated to the New York Knicks guard filing a complaint with the head referee Scott Foster about the fan's behavior.
While the match was played in San Antonio, a tense moment occurred between Brunson and the fan courtside as the final minutes approached. Footage shown during the broadcast highlighted that Brunson confronted the same person again after the game ended.
League officials are also investigating whether the fan mocked Brunson with the deceptive foul-drawing move known as "flopping." An NBA spokesperson said the alleged behavior might not have been verbal and could have been in the form of a gesture.
On the same day, the NBA announced it had banned two fans for life for collaborating in an incident involving Victor Wembanyama. The league revealed that one of these individuals planned to enter the court and take a selfie with Wembanyama.
When asked about the interaction with the fan, Brunson did not want to escalate the issue and gave a brief response. The Knicks won the game 105-95; Brunson scored 30 points.
In another question, when reminded of the high ticket prices on the secondary market for the finals games in New York, Brunson gave a humorous reply. When asked what he would want to watch for $7,500, he said he would like to see a live Michael Jackson performance.
