According to court documents in New York, John Gotti's grandson Carmine Gotti Agnello faced new charges for assaulting his girlfriend. The 39-year-old Agnello was brought to court following an incident at his Long Island home just days before he was to surrender to prison.
According to allegations, the incident began just before 10:30 PM on Tuesday. It is claimed that Agnello became angry accusing his girlfriend of cheating on him and committed the assault during this time. The woman later fled the house.
Violence allegations in court documents
The court complaint alleged that Agnello slapped the woman on her left cheek, punched the left side of her face, and choked her with both hands. It was also claimed that he kicked the woman and broke a $2,000 cell phone by throwing it on the ground.
Agnello was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree property damage, and obstructing breathing. He appeared before a judge in Nassau County court on Thursday and was released without bail.
Case emerged as prison surrender date approached
Agnello was expected to surrender to prison on June 12 to begin serving a 15-month sentence. This sentence was based on allegations that he stole $1.1 million in COVID relief funds in 2024.
According to procedure, it was claimed that he used this money for cryptocurrency investments. The court process also revealed that Agnello tried to postpone his prison surrender date and claimed he wanted to donate a kidney to his mother Victoria Gotti.
The Gotti family back in the headlines
Carmine Gotti Agnello is the grandson of John Gotti, the former leader of New York's infamous Gambino crime family. John Gotti was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1992 for extortion, murder, and other crimes, and died of throat cancer in 2002 while serving time in a federal prison in Illinois.
This latest case has brought the Gotti name back into the courtroom spotlight. When considering the charges against Agnello alongside his previous financial case, it is clear that the family name continues to provoke public debate years later.
