David Grodnick, 61, shot and killed his wife, Lora Grodnick, 62, and their daughter, Sloane Grodnick, 24, at the family’s home on Wild Azalea Lane in Montgomery Township before taking his own life, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police were called at 2:59 p.m. on Oct. 1 to conduct a welfare check but could not reach anyone at the house. Officers returned the following day and entered the home at about 5:52 p.m., finding the mother and daughter in separate bedrooms and David Grodnick elsewhere in the house with a firearm. The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the deaths of Lora and Sloane homicides and David’s death a suicide.

“No threat to the public”

“The investigation, which remains ongoing, has yielded that the homicide deaths of both Lora and Sloane Grodnick were an isolated incident and there are no threats to the public from this tragic occurrence,” Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said. Investigators have not disclosed a motive and are asking anyone with information to contact the office’s Major Crimes Unit.
David Grodnick was a senior vice president and underwriting counsel at a Philadelphia-based commercial real estate title insurance agency. Sloane Grodnick, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, was pursuing a master’s degree at the Rhode Island School of Design.
