Pakistani army spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Islamabad’s support for Saudi Arabia’s security was unconditional and that they would make every effort necessary to defend the kingdom.
Commenting on Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia in Yemen, Chaudhry said Pakistan stood with Riyadh at both the diplomatic and practical levels. He said the Pakistani people also stood in solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia, adding that his country would continue to defend Saudi Arabia against all forms of attack.
The Pakistani spokesperson said every effort requested and needed by Saudi Arabia’s “brothers” would be made to ensure the kingdom’s security, as well as to protect the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
Islamabad renews call for negotiations
Chaudhry said Pakistan was in constant contact with Saudi Arabia and the countries of the region. He said they were making a serious and sincere effort to resolve problems peacefully through negotiations.
Reiterating that Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security was unconditional, Chaudhry said this commitment stemmed from the deep, historic and unbreakable ties between the two peoples and the political and military leaderships of the two countries.
One person killed by UAV debris in Taif
Saudi authorities announced that falling debris from a UAV intercepted in the airspace over the city of Taif on Thursday killed one person and injured two others.
Two days before the incident, the coalition forces supporting Yemen’s legitimate government announced that Saudi air defenses had thwarted an attempt by the Houthis to target Mecca with a UAV.
Houthi actions against Saudi Arabia
The Houthis announced on July 20 that they had imposed a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia. The group said the decision was a response to the maritime and air blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has led the coalition supporting Yemen’s legitimate government since March 2015. The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sanaa, and several Yemeni provinces since September 2014.
The Houthis have carried out attacks on Saudi-owned ships as well as the country’s energy production facilities. The attacks injured civilians and caused property damage.
