Several US military aircraft were damaged in Iranian attacks on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
Around eight F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage in the attacks and were later returned to service. An A-10 Thunderbolt was also hit and lost a wing.
US forces used Patriot missiles
US forces fired more than 30 Patriot missiles to defend against the attacks. No casualties were reported on the US side in connection with the incidents.
The attacks took place after the United States announced on Tuesday that it had struck five Iranian tankers in response to the targeting of a US Navy ship.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later announced that it had carried out attacks on eight tankers, two warships and the US base in Jordan.
Concerns over Patriot stocks
The incidents occurred as US officials voiced concerns about rapidly declining stocks of Patriot missiles and dwindling reserves of other precision-guided munitions.
