Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has offered condolences to Türkiye in a message posted in both Turkish and English after deadly floods hit Istanbul this week.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction caused by the severe flood disaster in Istanbul,” Sharif wrote, extending his condolences to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, whom he called his “dear brother,” and to the families of the victims. He wished the injured a speedy recovery and said he hoped the missing would be found safe.
“Ready to provide all possible support”

“Pakistan stands in solidarity with the brotherly people of Türkiye and is ready to provide all possible support during this difficult time,” Sharif added.
Record rainfall
Rainfall in Istanbul’s Beykoz district reached 277.1 kilograms per square meter on Oct. 14, the highest at the city’s stations since 1942, according to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Floods, inundation and landslides caused deaths and heavy damage, and the Anatolian side of the city was placed under an orange weather alert on Saturday as more heavy rain was forecast.
Türkiye and Pakistan have a long history of mutual support in times of disaster. Erdoğan called Sharif in August 2025 to offer condolences and support after floods struck parts of Pakistan.
