Kim Kardashian and Simone Harouche were awarded symbolic damages in a civil case brought after the armed robbery in Paris in 2016. A Paris court ordered that each of them be paid €1.
Kardashian and her friend Harouche said the ruling was significant less for its financial value than for recognizing what they experienced and holding those responsible to account. They thanked the French justice system and those who supported them throughout the case, saying they hoped to overcome the effects of the trauma they endured.
The robbery took place in October 2016
Kardashian was staying at the Hôtel de Pourtalès in the French capital in October 2016 while she was there for Paris Fashion Week. A group of men, some disguised as police officers, entered the hotel in the early hours of the morning.
Held at gunpoint, Kardashian was restrained with plastic ties and tape and placed in a bathroom. The attackers searched her accommodation and stole jewelry worth millions of euros, including the engagement ring given to her by her then-husband, rapper Kanye West.
Most of the jewelry was not recovered. French authorities detained 17 suspects during the investigation, and 10 of them stood trial in Paris in 2025.
She described her fears at trial
At the hearing in Paris, where she traveled to testify, Kardashian said she feared being sexually assaulted and killed during the robbery.
In May 2025, seven men and one woman were convicted of offenses linked to the robbery. Aomar Ait Khedache, whom investigators identified as the organizer of the robbery, was among those convicted.
Some of the defendants were in their 60s and 70s during the court proceedings, prompting the French media to refer to them as “les papys braqueurs,” meaning “grandfather robbers.”
The civil ruling issued on Tuesday determined the compensation to be paid to Kardashian, Harouche and others affected by the crime, nearly nine years after the robbery took place.
