JD Vance argued that Washington’s approach to the Middle East should not be shaped to serve Israel’s interests.
The US vice president assessed US-Israel relations and developments in the region on the All-In Podcast, published on YouTube. Vance said the United States did not share Israel’s position on every issue and that Washington had largely succeeded in destroying Iran’s nuclear program and conventional military capabilities.
Vance said they viewed Israel as an important partner in terms of military technology and intelligence sharing, but noted that the two countries nevertheless disagreed on some issues.
Vance said Donald Trump was more willing than other US presidents in the past 40 years to disagree with Benjamin Netanyahu when he believed that the interests of the American people did not align with those of the Israeli government.
The US vice president also said Washington had many important partnerships within the framework of NATO. Vance said this did not mean that US policy toward Europe would be pursued solely in line with NATO’s interests, adding that the same principle applied to US policy toward the Middle East.
