In Calgary, Canada, 31-year-old Jamie Dacosta was charged with allegedly threatening to kill Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team of the Federal Policing Northwest Region received a report on July 28 that threats against the prime minister’s life had been posted on a YouTube account.
Following a joint investigation with the Calgary Police Service, Dacosta was taken into custody and charged with making a death threat.
Authorities did not disclose when the threats were posted or whether the YouTube account belonged to Dacosta.
Dacosta, who was being held in custody, was expected to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Tuesday.
